Horse Back Riding

Man and horse have been together for more than 5000 years. Riding a horse around the mountains and valleys that surround the beautiful city of Baños today is a really similar experience to the one that our ancestors had, when they used their horses for their daily work: cultivating the land or caring for cattle on the plains.

The volcano route is designed to give our visitors the best possible experience. We want you to be able to admire nature, the volcanic stones, the old roads, the birds’ song, and the endemic flora and fauna of our mountains, and above all enjoy the environment.

The experience of our local guides, who follow all safety standards, will allow you to have an unforgettable experience.

We provide the accessories for the horse ride, such as wool poncho, waterproof poncho, saddlebags and helmets.

Volcano Route – 3 Hours

Transportation departs from the Isla de Baños hotel to the entrance of the Huive Grande community (one of the most affected towns during the eruption of the Tungurahua volcano back in 2001). This is where the stable with our horses is located.

Your companions are prepared in advance, and after you receive some brief explanations and recommendations, we will start the ride.

As we ascend you’ll notice wonderful landscapes and large tree tomato, corn and potato crops, and farmers working the land. We will see cattle, flocks of sheep, chonta trees, as well as remains of the pyroclastic flows left by the eruption of the Tungurahua volcano.

Once we get to the highest point, we will rest for 30 minutes. From there we will see the entrance to the city of Baños, right in front of the cell antennas.

We will go back to the same point we started, and from there we will go by car to the hotel.
